Carlson Viking RTK: Next‑Gen GNSS Smart Antenna for Surveyors

The Carlson Viking RTK Receiver is Carlson Software’s next-generation GNSS Smart Antenna, built in Maysville, Kentucky, and engineered to provide surveying, engineering, and construction professionals with what the company describes as unmatched accuracy and speed. The Viking is designed to perform in environments where traditional receivers often fail, including dense forests and urban canyons.

Carlson Viking RTK: Core technologies

The Viking integrates industry-leading hardware with the Carlson GAMA® RTK engine. Its Triple‑Fix RTK architecture uses two GNSS chips and three independent RTK engines; Carlson reports that the system only indicates a Triple‑Fix when all three engines align within tolerances, a design intended to eliminate any chance of “false‑fixes.”

The receiver includes a calibration‑free IMU: a six‑axis inertial sensor that provides automatic pole tilt compensation, is described as immune to magnetic interference, and allows users to measure points faster without manually leveling the pole. Carlson also states the GAMA® RTK engine leverages the Viking’s multi‑core CPU and high‑performance GNSS antenna for increased speed and stability.

Resilience, performance and connectivity

To address modern field challenges, the Viking incorporates anti‑jamming and anti‑spoofing technology, multipath mitigation and advanced resistance to solar storms. Carlson asserts that in challenging environments the Viking significantly outperforms the industry competition.

The Viking can operate as either a base station or a lightweight rover and offers connectivity via UHF radio or cellular networks. Device management is handled through an intuitive web‑based user interface (Web UI) to support field workflows.

Carlson presents the Viking not as an incremental upgrade but as a rethinking of RTK performance, combining reliability, speed and resilience to help professionals work more efficiently and confidently in varied environments. Learn more about the Carlson Viking at carlsonsw.com/viking
