Metal, an Airwallex-backed start-up, has raised almost $50 million in a seed funding round, the company announced in late June. The round was jointly led by Airwallex and its venture capital arm, Capital 49, and the raise is the latest sign of an Australian-founded business making strides in the United States market.

Metal builds infrastructure for tokenised financial products and stablecoin payments. The company was co-founded by Melbourne-based entrepreneur Loong Wang and former Meta executive Catherine Porter.
