Apple Wallet car key compatibility and features
Apple Wallet’s car key feature lets a compatible iPhone or Apple Watch act as the vehicle key. GM said supported vehicles will automatically unlock as you approach and lock when you walk away. You can also open the vehicle’s trunk and switch the climate control system on or off from the Apple Wallet app.
GM’s digital keys use ultra-wideband technology for secure, proximity-based authentication, along with Bluetooth. They work with iPhone 11 or later (excluding iPhone SE 2, iPhone SE 3, and iPhone 16e) or an Apple Watch Series 6 or later.
To set up a digital car key, GM instructs owners to download and sign in to their vehicle’s mobile app. While in an OnStar-connected GM vehicle with the physical key fob nearby, follow the prompts in the app to add a digital key to your compatible digital wallet. More details are available in Apple’s support document.
