An alleged solder-joint diagram for Apple’s A20 Pro chip suggests the processor will bring several notable upgrades, including a seven-core GPU, a wider memory interface and a larger L2 cache for its efficiency cores.
The diagram was shared by a Weibo user who says the layout was reconstructed by mapping the chip’s solder ball positions and overlaying them with die-level images to outline where each block sits. According to the post, the resulting layout points to a two and four core CPU configuration and a seven-core GPU, with the GPU placed at the top of the die and the CPU blocks occupying the center.

Based on the leaked outline, the leaker expects the A20 Pro’s efficiency cores to share an 8MB L2 cache, up from 6MB on the A19 Pro, while the performance cores would retain a 16MB L2 cache. The size of the shared system-level cache was not identified; the leaker added it is unlikely to shrink given the chip’s reported new image signal processor and neural engine.
The GPU configuration would increase to seven cores from six on the A19 Pro, a rise of roughly 16%. The leak also points to a 96-bit memory interface for LPDDR5x RAM, up from the A19 Pro’s 64-bit interface — a 50% increase that would meaningfully boost memory bandwidth. Because graphics performance often scales with memory bandwidth, the wider bus could compound the performance effect of the extra GPU core.
The A20 Pro is widely expected to debut in the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max next week, and the chip could also be used in Apple’s first foldable iPhone, according to the same leak.
