Accessory manufacturer iFunSmart has unveiled the first protective cases for Apple’s anticipated foldable iPhone, reinforcing speculation about the device’s design. Case makers often begin producing accessories before a new iPhone launch, using dummy units or leaked CAD files to ensure precision. These designs, while speculative, have historically matched the actual devices closely, as accessory makers need to have products ready for launch day. Images of foldable iPhone dummy units surfaced in April, providing a template for case manufacturers.
The cases, identified by a French Apple site, feature a rear camera housing with two lenses, a slim profile, and a circular cutout for magnets similar to MagSafe. iFunSmart claims the cases offer military-grade drop protection, integrated N52 magnets, a translucent matte finish, raised camera lips, and a raised screen bezel. The design aligns with rumors and dummy units, indicating a clearer picture of the foldable’s exterior. The cases show two camera lens cutouts, consistent with reports that Apple will omit the telephoto camera, and a cutout for a Camera Control button, but no Action button. The case design is multi-part, accommodating the foldable nature of the device.
While the cases include magnets, this does not confirm MagSafe integration in the foldable iPhone itself. The N52 magnets may simply be for attaching external MagSafe accessories, like chargers and mounts, without corresponding magnets inside the device. iFunSmart’s offerings are expected to be the first among many, as accessory makers typically release various case designs ahead of a new iPhone launch.
Apple is anticipated to introduce the foldable iPhone alongside the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max in fall 2026. Leaks suggest features such as a 5.5-inch external display, a 7.8-inch inner display, a folded thickness of 9.5mm, and an open thickness of 4.5mm, the A20 Pro chip with 12GB of memory, dual 48-megapixel rear cameras, and Touch ID in the side button. The device is expected to start at around $2,000.
