Avatar Robotics has raised a $6.5 million seed round led by AlleyCorp and Defy Partners, with Headline and Henry Ford III also participating.
The San Francisco startup deploys wheeled robots in warehouses that are operated remotely by humans using headsets and handheld controllers. The teleoperated model lets customers access robotic labor before machines become fully autonomous, while each deployment produces data that Avatar uses to refine its robotics software.

Since launching in December, Avatar says its robots have packed nearly 1 million items. The company plans to expand existing customer deployments and continue developing toward more autonomous fleets for industrial work.
