Neither the Galaxy Z Fold 8 nor the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra support the S Pen. Both models lack a dedicated stylus slot and will not recognize a separately purchased S Pen — pairing and S Pen features are non-functional.
No S Pen on the new Fold models
Samsung has repositioned the Fold line: the Galaxy Z Fold 8 is presented as a new “passport”-format variant, while the Fold 8 Ultra — despite its name — functions as the true successor to the Fold 7. Regardless of naming, neither device includes hardware or software support for the S Pen.
A missed opportunity on the Galaxy Z Fold 8
The Galaxy Z Fold 8’s displays are actually well-suited to pen input: a 5.5-inch external display at a 16:10 ratio and a 7.6-inch internal foldable at a 4:3 ratio give tablet-like proportions. Those panels could have delivered a compelling S Pen experience, but Samsung abandoned that direction last year: the Galaxy Z Fold 7 already dropped S Pen support in 2025.
What to do if you rely on a stylus
If you regularly use an S Pen, look to the Galaxy S series or Galaxy Tab tablets — both continue to support the stylus. Otherwise, your only option is to keep using an older Fold model that remains S Pen-compatible while it’s still available.
What about S Pen support in future Folds?
Available information suggests it’s unlikely the wider Fold variants will regain S Pen support in the near term. Samsung hasn’t issued a final ruling, so a future reversal isn’t impossible, but it doesn’t look imminent.
Bottom line: for stylus enthusiasts, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Fold 8 Ultra are not viable choices — despite displays that would have made them appealing for pen-driven workflows.
