Does the Vivo X300 Pro rival Google and Samsung in software support?

Vivo’s launch of the X300 Pro in Kenya marks a significant promise in long-term software support, aligning it with industry leaders Google and Samsung. The X300 Pro is set to receive five years of Android OS updates and seven years of security patches, placing it among a select group of Android flagships with extended maintenance. However, while security updates match those of Google and Samsung, Vivo falls short in providing the same number of major Android version upgrades. The X300 Pro will receive five OS updates compared to the seven offered by Google and Samsung, meaning it will lag behind in Android versions over time. Despite this, Vivo’s commitment is noteworthy, especially in markets like Kenya, where premium smartphones are retained for extended periods. Seven years of security updates ensure continued protection against vulnerabilities, compatibility with banking apps, and a longer device lifespan without necessitating upgrades. With Android 16 pre-installed and the performance-driven OriginOS 6, the Vivo X300 Pro stands as a long-term investment, even if it doesn’t fully match Google and Samsung’s OS update longevity. While Vivo has narrowed the gap, Google and Samsung continue to set the benchmark for Android software support.
