Exynos 2700 tipped to power Galaxy S27 Ultra upgrade

A South Korean report suggests Samsung may equip the Galaxy S27 Ultra with its own Exynos 2700 chip, potentially strong enough to challenge Qualcomm’s top Snapdragon. The leak says Samsung placed orders for Galaxy S27 Ultra motherboards featuring the Exynos 2700 and is pursuing a dual-track strategy that would keep a Snapdragon version in development alongside an Exynos variant.

If true, the move would mark the first Galaxy S Ultra using an Exynos processor since the Galaxy S22 Ultra. Samsung has favored Snapdragon chips for recent Ultra models in many key markets, so an Exynos-equipped S27 Ultra would represent a notable shift rather than a universal replacement.

Where the Exynos 2700 could appear

The report indicates Samsung is unlikely to use the Exynos 2700 across all S27 Ultra units or the entire Galaxy S27 family. Based on the company’s historical distribution strategy, US buyers are still expected to receive Snapdragon-powered Ultra models, while Exynos versions could be rolled out in selected regions. For the Galaxy S27 and S27 Plus, Exynos variants appear even more likely, mirroring the approach used for recent S-series phones. The Galaxy S27 Pro remains uncertain; many sources suggest it could share much of the Ultra’s specification, leaving open the possibility of a common chip platform.

Exynos 2700’s reported performance

Earlier tests reported last month showed the Exynos 2700 outperforming several builds of the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 in synthetic benchmarks. In Geekbench 6.5 multi-core runs, the Exynos was reportedly up to 19% faster than the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 and about 9.5% faster than the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro. Graphics performance was also said to be stronger, with the Exynos GPU around 5% ahead of the Gen 6 Pro; under low-power conditions the gap reportedly widened to 22% over the Pro and 24% over the standard Snapdragon model.

Caution is warranted: those figures come from prototype devices and synthetic tests, which do not always predict sustained real-world performance. Previous Exynos generations have sometimes posted high short-burst benchmark scores only to show reduced performance under prolonged, thermally demanding workloads. Hardware configurations, software and optimization on commercial units may differ significantly from the prototypes used in these tests.

If the reported results hold up in final devices, the Exynos 2700 could become one of Samsung’s most notable mobile chips in years and present a stronger rival to Qualcomm in the premium segment. For now, Samsung appears to be keeping both Exynos and Snapdragon paths open for the Galaxy S27 lineup.
