Samsung has announced the Galaxy SmartTag 3, a redesigned location tracker that is 35% smaller and 33% lighter than the SmartTag 2, adds iOS support for the first time in the lineup, extends its compass range up to 60 meters using Bluetooth 6.0 Channel Sounding, and improves battery life to up to 550 days under standard use and up to 790 days in Power Saving Mode. The SmartTag 3 will debut on October 7 in Korea, with the USA to follow and additional markets rolling out in 2027.
Galaxy SmartTag 3 design and dimensions
The SmartTag 3 returns to a simple puck form factor and no longer includes a built-in loop or even a small lanyard hole like the original SmartTag. To compensate, Samsung will sell an optional silicone loop case to attach the tracker to belongings. The redesign yields a device that is 35% smaller and 33% lighter than the SmartTag 2. The tracker retains an IP67 dust and water resistance rating and is available in white and black; the optional case will be offered in a wider range of colors.
Features, improvements and cross-platform support
The SmartTag 3 keeps core location features already found on the SmartTag 2, including Place Notifications, Location History, Movement Alert, NFC-powered Lost Mode, SmartThings IoT Control and Left Behind Alert. New or enhanced capabilities include an Extended Compass View with a range of up to 60 meters using Bluetooth 6.0 Channel Sounding and improved battery life—up to 550 days (from 500 days) under standard use and up to 790 days (from 700 days) in Power Saving Mode. For the first time in the Galaxy SmartTag lineup, the SmartTag 3 supports both Galaxy devices and iPhones.
Availability
The Galaxy SmartTag 3 will go on sale in Korea on October 7. Samsung said the United States will follow after Korea, and additional markets will be added in 2027.
