Google Play System update for Samsung shows January 1, 2027 timestamp

Galaxy S26 Ultra units running the stable version of One UI 9.0 received a Google Play System update yesterday that weighed around 100MB and carried a January 1, 2027 timestamp—more than two months ahead of the current date.

Why the Google Play System update timestamp matters

Samsung smartphones and tablets receive one or more Google Play System updates almost every month. Unlike system software and app updates, which are identified by version numbers, these updates display a timestamp indicating the date, month, and year they correspond to. While users might have expected it to carry an October 2026 or even November 2026 timestamp, given that the current month is nearing its end, the update surprisingly carries a January 1, 2027 timestamp.

As usual, Google hasn’t provided a changelog for either update. Other Samsung smartphones worldwide may also receive this update soon.

How to check for the Google Play System update

To check for its availability and install it, go to Settings > About phone > Software information > Google Play System update.
