Has Zuckerberg Ended His Silence on X with an AI Announcement?

Mark Zuckerberg has broken his three-year silence on X (formerly Twitter) to introduce Meta’s latest AI offerings: Muse Spark 1.1 and the Meta Model API. This marks Meta’s first foray into paid platforms for external developers, positioning the company in direct competition with industry giants like OpenAI, Anthropic, and Google. Meta aims to attract developers with competitive pricing, hoping to pressure competitors’ profit margins. Despite the announcement, META’s stock saw only a modest 2% increase.

Muse Spark 1.1 is designed as an agentic model, capable of performing complex tasks, utilizing software tools, and operating across various digital platforms. It can manage long, multi-step processes, with a capacity to hold up to one million tokens in its memory. The model is adept at writing and fixing code, and it can interpret images and video alongside text. Users can access it in “Thinking” mode via the Meta AI app and website.

Meta’s pricing strategy sets Muse Spark 1.1 at $1.25 per million input tokens and $4.25 per million output tokens, undercutting competitors like Anthropic. This move is seen as a direct challenge to rivals, with Zuckerberg emphasizing the affordability of high-level AI intelligence.

In a similar vein, SpaceXAI and Cursor have launched Grok 4.5, another budget-friendly agentic model, on the same day. The Meta Model API now allows developers to integrate Muse Spark 1.1 into their applications, offering $20 in free credits for new users. This shift from freely distributing the Llama models marks a new chapter for Meta, following its acquisition of Scale AI and the establishment of Superintelligence Labs.
