How Can Technology Revolutionize Medical Education?

The landscape of medical education is undergoing a significant transformation, driven by rapid technological advancements. This shift from traditional learning methods to digitally enhanced environments offers both opportunities and challenges for educational institutions worldwide. Digital tools such as simulation-based learning, virtual reality, and AI have been integrated into medical curricula, promising improved knowledge acquisition and clinical skills. However, the integration process faces hurdles like high costs, infrastructural limitations, and a lack of long-term efficacy evidence. Educators and policymakers must navigate these challenges to determine the most effective and sustainable technologies. Despite focused studies, there remains a gap in understanding the long-term impact of these technologies. A comprehensive review aims to map the evolution of educational technology from 1978 to 2024, providing insights to guide strategic investments in medical education. Through a systematic review process, 18 studies were analyzed, revealing trends and challenges in technology integration. The findings emphasize the need for strategic, evidence-based technology adoption in medical education to prepare future healthcare professionals for a digital landscape.
