How did the World AI Conference 2026 in Shanghai prepare a record exhibition so quickly?

Shanghai Gears Up for World AI Conference 2026 (WAIC) with Unprecedented Exhibition Footprint and Accelerated Buildout

A record-sized exhibition area and novel digital and modular solutions are driving a rapid setup as Shanghai prepares to host the World AI Conference 2026 (WAIC) from July 17–20.

A large-scale build completed in days
The exhibition hub at the Shanghai World Expo Exhibition and Convention Center spans more than 100,000 m² — roughly the size of 14 football fields — and was assembled in just 12 days. Organizers say that this accelerated pace improved installation efficiency by nearly 40% compared with previous editions. “The full WAIC preparation, from site entry to assembly, now takes only two to three days to complete,” said Li Haochen, an on-site manager for an exhibition contractor.

A first for digital twin plus modular construction
For the first time, WAIC is deploying an integrated exhibition solution that combines digital twin technology with modular construction. The approach enabled smoother coordination across lighting, sound systems, interactive installations and robotic equipment, and played a key role in the faster on-site build.

An international show brimming with new releases
The conference will occupy four venues across the Pudong, Zhangjiang and Xuhui districts and will host more than 1,100 companies. Exhibitors will showcase over 3,000 products and technologies, including more than 300 world debuts. On-site preparations are now focused on final technical and interactive adjustments to ensure demonstrations run as planned.

WAIC 2026 positions itself as a major industrial and technological event, where the convergence of digital tooling and modular methods highlights a notable logistics trend for large international trade shows.
