Origin Lab has successfully secured $8 million in seed funding, led by Lightspeed Venture Partners, to enhance its platform that converts licensed video game worlds into structured training data for AI systems. This funding round also saw participation from SV Angel, Eniac Ventures, Seven Stars, FPV, as well as angel investors such as Twitch co-founder Kevin Lin and Cruise founder Kyle Vogt. The company collaborates directly with game publishers to create rights-cleared datasets that include gameplay, physics, movement, and environmental information, all tailored for training world models and multimodal AI systems. The investment will be utilized to advance Origin Lab’s software and systems for data capture, enrichment, quality assurance, search, and delivery, alongside expanding its research in world understanding, dataset intelligence, and interactive simulation. With exclusive partnerships with over 20 game publishers and contracts with leading AI labs, Origin Lab is poised to bridge the gap between the gaming industry and AI labs, offering licensed, structured, and multimodal data essential for AI systems to understand and interact with complex environments. The company’s efforts are focused on establishing a technical foundation for training and evaluating AI systems within intricate interactive worlds, marking a significant shift in AI development from language understanding to world comprehension.
