Apple released iOS 27.2, a first major update to iOS 27 that brings a wide range of feature changes and security fixes while uniting the iPhone Duo and other iPhone models on the same iOS version. The release introduces notable Siri AI improvements, media and Photos updates, new app behaviors and privacy tweaks, and addresses more than 160 security vulnerabilities.
iOS 27.2: Siri AI and expanded capabilities
Siri AI in iOS 27.2 can recall past conversations, letting you follow up on something it previously recommended, such as a restaurant. Siri AI can also draw on additional sources for context, including photos attached to Messages, Calendar event attendees and voicemails, and Apple says results from Safari history and Reading List should improve. A redesigned Excluded Apps feature now lets users quickly select which apps Siri, Search and suggestions can access, replacing the prior per-app exclusion process. iOS 27.2 adds granular text selection so you can select and copy part of a Siri response. Siri AI requires an iPhone 15 Pro or later.
Language support and availability for Siri AI
Siri AI gains support for more languages, including French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish. Siri AI remains unavailable in the EU and in mainland China.
Messages suggestions return
iOS 27.2 restores Messages suggestions that were present during the iOS 27 beta period but removed before launch. The feature displays tappable shortcuts in conversations based on context, for actions like tracking a package or adding a dinner invite to Calendar. Users can choose which suggestions to enable, with options for Calendar, Reminders, Notes, Maps and Flights and Packages.
Photos, SynthID and media app changes
Shared Albums in Photos now let users edit captions and comments. Photos gains a feature to avoid duplicate photos and a reminder before albums expire so important photos and videos can be saved. iOS 27.2 includes SynthID labeling for Image Playground images and some Photos app edits. Watermarks are added when using Extend and Reframe in Photos and for large edits with the Clean Up tool. Apple notes images can be checked for SynthID using Google’s SynthID Detector website.
Apple Music receives a visual update with a new black-and-white icon replacing the red icon, and Apple removed red highlights from the navigation bar and other areas of the app.
Podcasts, Games and Apple TV app updates
The Podcasts Home tab now has separate New Episodes and Continue Playing sections, replacing Up Next. The Games app Friends tab adds context for friend suggestions and shows recent games played on friends’ player pages.
Apple TV app users can create profiles on iPhone and iPad from account settings. Profiles require a name, profile rating and whether the user is a child. Creating a child profile limits content to a PG rating by default, with a customize option for finer control. Users can select age ratings for TV shows and movies appropriate to a child’s age.
FaceTime, Phone and iPhone Duo updates
FaceTime Dual Capture is now available in group FaceTime calls, allowing streaming from front and rear cameras simultaneously. On a compatible device running iOS 27, flipping the camera during a FaceTime call automatically turns on Dual Capture. Dual Capture is available on iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro, iPhone 17 Pro Max, iPhone Air, iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max and iPhone Duo. iOS 27.2 also adds an option to add a third-party sign language interpreter or live captioner to a call.
The Phone app Call Context feature now reminds you of a contact’s anniversary when you call them if the date is saved in Contacts. iOS 27.2 adds Apple Pencil USB-C support to the iPhone Duo and introduces Edge Light to illuminate your face during video calls.
Shortcuts, Multiview and Clock
Shortcuts gets new automations, actions and improvements, including a ‘when my iPhone is opened or closed’ automation for the iPhone Duo. An updated Workout automation adds support for the Fitness app, and the App automation can provide the name of the app that was closed. Window layout can be configured with the ‘Show Actions’ and ‘Show Describe a Shortcut’ menu items, and Shortcut names and icons can be edited from the library.
Multiview expands in the Apple TV app to the iPhone, allowing up to four live sports streams simultaneously for events included in an Apple TV subscription, specifically Major League Soccer, Formula 1 in the U.S., and Friday Night Baseball doubleheaders during the Major League Baseball season. The Clock app now shows smaller a.m. and p.m. labels in the alarm list.
Privacy, Health and security
App Tracking Transparency in iOS 27.2 supports an alternative expanded prompt for EU users and adds annual re-prompting. The alternative prompt is required for users in France, Germany, Italy, Poland and Romania. Apple tested a redesigned Health app in the iOS 27.2 beta, but that redesigned app will not be included in iOS 27.2 and is expected later in the year. iOS 27.2 addresses more than 160 security vulnerabilities; none of the vulnerabilities were reported as actively exploited.
Overall, iOS 27.2 delivers a mix of AI, media, usability and privacy updates alongside extensive security fixes, while keeping the iPhone Duo on the same release track as other iPhone models.
