iPhone Duo Fails Durability Test After Dust and Bend Damage

The iPhone Duo failed a durability test after dust entered the hinge despite an IP68 dust-resistance rating; the intrusion passed through several ingress points, overwhelming the magnets that hold the phone shut. A subsequent bend test left a permanent green line across the inner display before the screen became unresponsive.

The outer screen with Ceramic Shield 2 scratched at level 7 on the Mohs scale, while the inner screen only reached level 2. The inner panel’s matte nano-texture coating was credited with making marks “magically disappear,” but that was not enough to earn a pass.

“I’ve been testing these folding phones since the first generation seven years ago – most do survive,” said Nelson. “The iPhone Duo did not.” Watch his full video here.
