iPhone Duo to Start at $2,000, Won’t Ship Before October

Apple’s foldable iPhone, reportedly branded the iPhone Duo, will start at $2,000 for a 256 GB model and top out at roughly $3,000, and it is not expected to be available until at least October, according to Mark Gurman.

iPhone Duo: price, specs and availability

The entry-level iPhone Duo will include 256 gigabytes of storage, with higher-capacity options that push the price toward $3,000. Apple has reportedly exceeded its cost targets because of a recent memory shortage and is absorbing some of the added expense to keep the base price near $2,000 while passing higher storage costs on to buyers.

The device’s name emphasizes its dual-screen design; it had been referred to internally as the “iPhone Ultra,” but the company appears to be adopting iPhone Duo for the official product name. The foldable is expected to ship in white and dark blue and could go on sale as early as October.

Technical details reported include a new A20 Pro chip, Apple’s C2 modem, dual 48-megapixel rear cameras, a 12-megapixel front camera, a magnetic hinge system and support for the Apple Pencil stylus. Mark Gurman also said Apple tested a smaller version of the Apple Pencil for the foldable device, though a simultaneous Pencil launch was described as unlikely.

Other device updates and event timing

Gurman’s report also touches on other upcoming products: the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max are expected to carry $100 price increases compared with current equivalents. The report mentions forthcoming Apple Watch Series 12 and Ultra 4 models and new AirPods 5 models as well.

Apple’s “Surprise and Shine” event is scheduled to begin at 10:00 a.m. Pacific Time tomorrow.
