Is a Snap-On Touch Display the Future for MacBooks?

Apple, traditionally opposed to touchscreen MacBooks due to ergonomic concerns, appears to be reconsidering its stance. Recent rumors indicate the tech giant is working on a touchscreen MacBook Pro. Meanwhile, at CES 2026, startup Intricuit introduced an innovative solution that adds touchscreen capabilities to existing MacBooks with Apple silicon.

The Magic Screen, a snap-on digitizer, attaches to a MacBook’s display using built-in magnets and connects via USB-C. It brings familiar smartphone gestures like tapping, swiping, and zooming directly to the laptop screen. Additionally, it includes a stylus with pressure sensitivity, ideal for drawing and navigation, and supports iPhone Mirroring for interacting with iOS apps.

Equipped with a battery lasting up to 100 hours, the Magic Screen also features a Folio Case that doubles as a stand, minimizing screen wobble. When detached, it serves as a standalone drawing tablet.

In parallel, industry insights suggest Apple’s upcoming OLED MacBook Pro will integrate touch sensors directly into the display, enhancing productivity and user experience. Expected to debut between late 2026 and early 2027, this model will maintain a traditional trackpad and keyboard.

Intricuit plans to launch the Magic Screen on Kickstarter, with compatibility across all Apple silicon MacBooks and shipping expected in the first quarter of this year. Would a touchscreen MacBook enhance your tech experience? Share your thoughts in the comments.
