Is a Snap-On Touch Display the Future for Your MacBook?

Apple, traditionally opposed to incorporating touchscreens in MacBooks due to ergonomic concerns, appears to be reconsidering its stance. Recent developments hint at the tech giant working on a touchscreen MacBook Pro. Meanwhile, at CES 2026, the startup Intricuit has introduced an innovative solution to add touchscreen capabilities to existing MacBooks with Apple silicon.

The Magic Screen, a snap-on device, attaches to a MacBook’s display using the device’s built-in magnets. This add-on connects via USB-C and transforms the laptop screen into a touch interface, enabling familiar gestures like tapping, swiping, and zooming. It also includes a stylus with pressure sensitivity, enhancing creative tasks and navigation.

Intricuit’s device supports iPhone Mirroring, allowing users to interact with iOS apps directly on the MacBook. It features a battery capable of lasting up to 100 hours and comes with a Folio Case that doubles as a stand, minimizing screen wobble. Additionally, when detached, it functions as an independent drawing tablet.

In parallel, industry analysts project that Apple’s upcoming OLED MacBook Pro will integrate touch technology directly into the display, potentially launching by late 2026 or early 2027. This move reflects Apple’s insights into iPad usage patterns, suggesting touch controls could boost productivity and user experience. Intricuit plans to launch the Magic Screen on Kickstarter, with deliveries expected in the year’s first quarter. Would a touchscreen MacBook enhance your experience?
