Beijing, June 5 — Artificial intelligence (AI) should not be monopolized by major nations or become a battleground for competition, stated Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson Mao Ning. During a regular press briefing, Mao emphasized AI’s transformative impact on society, describing it as a new frontier for humanity. She highlighted China’s commitment to a people-centered AI approach, promoting openness and inclusiveness to ensure AI benefits everyone. China has launched initiatives like the Global AI Governance Initiative and the World Artificial Intelligence Cooperation Organization, aiming to foster dialogue, cooperation, and a fair environment for AI development. This July, China will host the 2026 World AI Conference and a High-Level Meeting on Global AI Governance in Shanghai, hoping to enhance global AI governance and create a brighter future for humanity.
