Is Apple Developing New ‘AirPods Ultra’ with Cameras?

The latest iOS 27 developer beta has unveiled potential clues about a new Apple product, potentially linked to the much-anticipated “AirPods Ultra.” The code, discovered by a developer, references a product codenamed B790 that can transmit images from cameras positioned on either side of a user’s head. This has fueled speculation about Apple’s rumored smart glasses, though the AirPods with cameras appear to be further along in development. Previously, the AirPods Pro 3 were identified as B788, while the smart glasses reportedly carry the codename N50. Both the “AirPods Ultra” and smart glasses are expected to feature Visual Intelligence, enabling users to receive information about objects they view, such as house plants, through Siri. This technology is already available on the iPhone 15 Pro and newer models, and on iOS 27, it can be accessed via the Camera app’s new “Siri” mode. The code suggests that Visual Intelligence will recognize landmarks, text, and familiar objects, with examples like the Eiffel Tower and a coffee mug. Though details remain scarce, it’s evident that Apple is progressing in the development of camera-equipped wearables, with both products anticipated for a late 2027 release.
