Is Apple increasing orders for a foldable iPhone?

Apple has reportedly asked suppliers to ramp up production of vapor chambers, according to a Weibo account known as “Fixed Focus Digital” — a move presented as preparation for a future foldable iPhone and special 20th‑anniversary models.

A faster push toward a foldable
The report claims Apple is now targeting roughly 10 million units for its foldable iPhone in 2026, up from an earlier forecast of 7–8 million. Fixed Focus Digital says the increased order for cooling components will first support manufacturing of a “book”-style foldable — sometimes referred to as the “iPhone Ultra” — which is expected as soon as September. There is no independent confirmation of these figures at this time.

Why vapor chambers?
Vapor chambers are cited as a technical solution for managing heat dissipation in devices with tighter space constraints. Apple introduced this type of cooling with the iPhone 17 Pro: a system that uses a small amount of deionized water to move heat away from the A19 Pro chip and distribute it across the aluminum chassis. The foldable form factor — thinner and with limited internal volume — could present specific thermal challenges, hence the reported interest in more ambitious vapor chamber designs.

The 20th anniversary and design constraints
The leaker also references two commemorative models expected in 2027, said to keep screen sizes close to the iPhone 18 Pro and 18 Pro Max (approximately 6.3 and 6.9 inches). These 20th‑anniversary phones are described as featuring an edge‑to‑edge display with glass curved on all four sides — a design shift that, the report suggests, could also demand more advanced cooling solutions. Fixed Focus Digital adds that a return to a glass‑dominant build for this iPhone has already prompted upgrades to some production lines.

What this means
Apple has recently increased investment in thermal management for its flagship phones, and these claims paint a picture of hardware priorities if the company moves ahead with an ambitious foldable and a significant anniversary redesign. For now, however, the details rest on unconfirmed Weibo disclosures and should be treated as tentative until corroborated.
