Is Google set to outpace Apple with its Pixel 11 launch?

Google is gearing up to unveil its latest Pixel 11 series on August 12, positioning itself a month ahead of Apple’s anticipated release of new iPhone models. The upcoming lineup includes the Pixel 11, Pixel 11 Pro, Pixel 11 Pro XL, and the innovative Pixel 11 Pro Fold. Early leaks indicate these devices will feature slimmer bezels, a sleeker design compared to the Pixel 10, and a revamped all-black camera bar.

The new foldable Pixel is expected to resemble the Pixel 10 Pro Fold, albeit with a thinner profile and slight modifications to the rear camera. When folded, it measures approximately 10.1mm, reducing to 4.8mm when unfolded, closely matching the rumored dimensions of Apple’s foldable iPhone.

Following Apple’s lead from last year, Google plans to drop the 128GB option, starting the Pixel 11 series at 256GB. However, consumers might face higher prices, with European leaks suggesting an increase of €100 across the board due to rising DRAM costs.

In June, Apple raised prices on Macs and iPads, and the forthcoming iPhone models are expected to follow suit, potentially costing up to $200 more than the iPhone 17 series. The Pixel 11 will rival Apple’s iPhone 18 Pro series, set for a September debut, while the base iPhone 18 is delayed until spring 2027. Apple’s first foldable iPhone is also on the horizon.

Samsung is also in the race, with a July Unpacked event anticipated to launch the Galaxy Z Fold 8, Galaxy Z Flip 8, and the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide, the latter featuring an aspect ratio similar to the rumored foldable iPhone.

As Apple enters the foldable market, it faces competition from Samsung and Google, who have had years to refine their designs. Samsung’s journey in foldables began in 2019, while Google’s first Pixel Fold was introduced in 2023.
