Is Samsung Messages really disappearing for everyone?

Samsung has announced that it will discontinue its Messages app in July 2026, but this change will only affect users in the USA. Globally, the app will continue to function as usual, with no immediate plans for discontinuation in other regions. In the USA, users are encouraged to switch to Google Messages, as the Galaxy S26 and newer devices will no longer support Samsung Messages. After July, downloading the app will be impossible, and only emergency numbers will be accessible through it. Older Samsung devices might face temporary disruptions in RCS conversations, but these can resume once both parties switch to Google Messages. Tizen OS smartwatches will lose access to full message histories but will still support basic texting. Message data transfer between the two apps will occur automatically, potentially taking up to 24 hours. Users with phones running Android 12 or 13 will need to manually update their home screen shortcuts to reflect the switch to Google Messages.
