Is the U.S. warning of a dangerous situation in Venezuelan airspace?

On December 16, the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) issued a safety alert highlighting a potentially dangerous situation in the Maiquetía Flight Information Region, which includes Venezuelan airspace. The FAA advised air operators to exercise extreme caution at all altitudes due to worsening safety conditions and increased military activity around Venezuela. These threats pose risks to aircraft during flights and at airports. U.S. civil aviation operators are urged to check the FAA’s website for security updates and notify planned flights 72 hours in advance. Any security incidents should be reported to the FAA’s Washington Operations Center. This alert, effective from December 16, 2025, to February 19, 2026, arises amid regional tensions and military activities near Venezuela. There has been no response from Venezuelan authorities.
