Mobile Podcast Studios Power Trade Shows, Says SPL’s Nate Dillon

SPL LLC has developed an all-in-one mobile podcast studio that can be transported and set up at events to deliver studio-quality production in moments, Nate Dillon, VP of Business Development for the Chicago-based AV design firm, told Danica Tormohlen, VP of Group Content. The solution combines professional microphones, automated camera switching, lighting and sound to simplify on-site podcast production.

Mobile podcast studios designed for rapid, high-quality setup

Dillon described the system as easy to deploy: “You power it on, plug in internet, and you have a studio quality podcasting solution,” he said. The studio is intended to be both portable and user-friendly, with equipment and automation chosen so hosts and guests can look and sound professional without complex operation.

Podcasting is becoming a trade-show staple

Dillon noted a rising trend of trade shows incorporating podcast capabilities. “A lot of trade shows are having podcasting capabilities at their shows,” he said. He pointed to demand at events ranging from the AI Expo to the National Restaurant Association Show and noted SPL’s own setups at Cvent Connect, including installations at Music City Center.

Plan early and pick partners who care

For organizers considering on-site podcast production, Dillon recommended early planning and bringing technical experts into discussions from the start: “You’ve got to plan ahead… bring your experts to the table early,” he said. He also stressed the importance of ensuring stable internet connectivity and understanding costs during the planning phase to avoid last-minute issues.

When choosing a production partner, Dillon advised assessing vendors’ enthusiasm: “If your production company isn’t excited to talk about it [your project], then they’re probably not excited to execute,” he said, adding that a passionate team can influence the final quality of event content.

SPL positions its mobile podcast studios as a practical way for event organizers to capture live content and boost attendee engagement while maintaining broadcast-level production values.
