Samsung has unveiled the ISOCELL HPC, a new 200MP camera sensor for premium smartphones that integrates DeepPix technology to capture more light and improve image quality, but the Galaxy S27 Ultra is unlikely to use it.
ISOCELL HPC technology and key specs
The ISOCELL HPC uses a 1/1.3-inch optical format with 0.6 μm pixels and introduces DeepPix, described as the industry’s first pixel structure that improves Full Well Capacity (FWC). DeepPix employs advanced Front Deep Trench Isolation (FDTI) to expand photodiode capacity and the shared floating diffusion area; Samsung claims this raises single-pixel FWC by 60% compared with the previous generation. The company says these changes yield brighter scenes, deeper shadows and reduced noise in HDR images.
The sensor supports single-frame 16-bit HDR, which Samsung states can offer up to 4x richer color expression than traditional HDR solutions, preserving more natural tones and subtle details in challenging lighting. For video, the ISOCELL HPC can record 4K at up to 180 fps.
Improved zoom HDR, optics and production status
ISOCELL HPC also improves HDR performance across zoom levels, supporting single-frame HDR at 1x, 1.5x, 2x, 3x and 4x using in-sensor zoom and intelligent in-sensor downscaling. Optical enhancements include a High Precision Microlens (High-P) to focus more light onto each photodiode and a High Transmittance ARL (High-T) coating to reduce reflection and scattering. Samsung reports the ISOCELL HPC is in mass production.
Leaked information suggests the Oppo Find X10 Ultra, expected to debut later this year, could be among the first devices to adopt the new 200MP sensor. However, Samsung may not deploy ISOCELL HPC in its own upcoming Galaxy S27 lineup: the Galaxy S27 Ultra is expected to feature a different new 200MP ISOCELL HP6 sensor that uses LOFIC technology. This would mark a departure from Samsung’s earlier reliance on the ISOCELL HP2, which powers several Galaxy Ultra models, including the latest S26 Ultra.
