Samsung under probe in India over OLED TV parts tariffs

India has opened an investigation into Samsung after officials alleged the company paid lower import tariffs on OLED TV parts it imports to assemble high-end televisions, potentially exposing Samsung to penalties of up to 100%.

The imported components are used to manufacture OLED panels that are then assembled into TVs sold in the local market, which officials estimate to be worth $4.7 billion.

Officials say Samsung and LG misclaimed concessional tariffs

Officials contend that both Samsung and LG incorrectly claimed a concessional 5% tariff on these parts. They say the lower rate is only permitted for older LCD and LED panels used in mass-market televisions and argue the companies should have paid a 15% tariff on the imported parts instead.
