Apple added a new iPhone Handoff feature in iOS 27 that lets users switch between two iPhones while using the same phone number on each device. T-Mobile and Deutsche Telekom are the first carriers to offer iPhone Handoff; Apple said Verizon and EE will add support later this year, but AT&T is noncommittal.
An AT&T spokesperson said the carrier sees “potential” in iPhone Handoff but remains focused on “existing eSIM activation and transfer options.” In the spokesperson’s words: “While we see that there could be potential in capabilities like iPhone Handoff,” the spokesperson replied, “our focus remains on delivering innovations that make life simpler and keep customers connected with confidence.” They then pointed to “existing eSIM activation and transfer options across compatible devices.”
iPhone Handoff rollout and pricing
In the U.S., T-Mobile is charging $5 per month for iPhone Handoff. “iPhone Handoff is available on any iPhone with iOS 27 via iPhone settings and ready to use from day one on the new iPhone 18 Pro lineup and iPhone Duo,” said T-Mobile.
Deutsche Telekom is charging €6.95 per month for iPhone Handoff, but only on plans that do not already include multi-SIM functionality.
iOS 27 was released on September 14.
