Microsoft is currently restricting employee access to Claude Fable 5, Anthropic’s latest AI model, due to concerns over new data retention requirements. While the model has been made available to GitHub Copilot and Foundry customers, it is not yet accessible for internal use by Microsoft employees. This decision stems from Anthropic’s policy that requires retaining data for up to 30 days, or longer if flagged for policy violations, raising legal questions about handling customer and confidential information. Microsoft’s legal teams are reviewing these requirements to determine if internal use will be permitted. Anthropic’s Claude Fable 5, part of the Mythos-class models, was recently released with enhanced safety measures after being deemed too powerful for public release due to its cybersecurity capabilities. Microsoft has not provided any comments on the situation.
