Will AI Become a Core Part of Punjab Schools’ Curriculum?

Chandigarh: Punjab’s school education system is set to undergo a significant transformation with the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) as a core component. The Punjab School Education Board (PSEB) has announced that learning outcomes in computer science will now be reflected in students’ board certificates. This initiative was unveiled during a national AI conference hosted by PSEB, bringing together policymakers, industry leaders, and educators to chart a course for modern classrooms.

Punjab Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains emphasized the transformative potential of AI in education, highlighting its role in enhancing quality, fostering innovation, and modernizing the system to prepare students for a technology-driven world. PSEB Chairman Amarpal Singh noted that AI will build on the existing compulsory computer science curriculum, ensuring students become skilled users and responsible digital citizens.

The conference featured prominent figures such as the heads of Haryana and J&K school education boards, CBSE’s Director for Training and Skill Education Biswajit Saha, and Intel’s Senior Director for Asia Pacific and Japan, Shweta Khurana. An exhibition showcased AI-driven startup projects, underscoring the burgeoning ecosystem of educational innovation. Panel discussions explored the intersection of policy, technology, and workforce readiness, underscoring the commitment to ethically integrating AI in education.
