Will Apple’s price hikes lead to increased costs for Samsung products?

The global shortage of memory components is affecting all major tech companies, leading to inevitable price increases for consumer devices. Samsung has discreetly raised prices on several mobile devices this year, and more increases may be forthcoming for their upcoming products.

This trend was highlighted when Apple recently increased the prices of several Mac computers and iPads, citing unavoidable market conditions. Prices for the MacBook Air, MacBook Pro, and iPad Air have all seen significant hikes. While iPhone, Apple Watch, and AirPods prices remain unchanged for now, future increases are anticipated. Microsoft has similarly raised prices for its Xbox consoles, indicating a broader industry trend.

The cost of DRAM components has already doubled this year, with projections indicating further increases through 2027. This affects all manufacturers, including Samsung, which quietly raised prices on several devices earlier this year without public announcements. The Galaxy Z Flip 7, Galaxy S25 FE, and Galaxy Tab S11 Ultra all saw price increases.

As Samsung prepares for its upcoming Unpacked event, where new foldable phones and other devices are expected to be launched, the company faces a challenging pricing environment. The ongoing memory crisis, driven by high AI demand, leaves manufacturers like Samsung little choice but to pass on increased costs to consumers.

Apple’s recent pricing decisions have set a precedent, removing the option for companies to quietly manage these increases. With Apple openly raising prices, Samsung may follow suit, as the era of stable pricing in consumer electronics appears to be coming to an end.
