How video playback on CarPlay works
When an iPhone app supports AirPlay video streaming, users will be able to select the vehicle’s screen from iOS’s AirPlay menu to start playback. Apple says the feature is limited to “new vehicles” that include dedicated support for video playback via CarPlay. For safety, playback is gated by the vehicle’s status: video will play only when the car is parked.

iOS 27 also opens CarPlay to apps that can browse and present video content from the dashboard UI.
