Will Samsung increase memory chip production in the US?

The shortage of memory chips has become a critical hurdle in the development of AI infrastructure, with only three companies globally capable of addressing this issue. Among them is Samsung, alongside fellow Korean company SK Hynix and US-based Micron. The US government, through Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick, has urged Samsung and SK Hynix to boost their memory chip production in the US. While Micron is already making significant investments to expand its domestic production, Lutnick emphasized the necessity for its Korean competitors to follow suit. He is in active discussions with executives from Samsung and SK Hynix, acknowledging potential tensions this could cause, especially with Micron. However, the overarching goal remains to fortify America’s semiconductor supply chain.
