Samsung revises production forecast to prioritize the Galaxy Z Fold 8: the company plans to build 2.8 million standard units versus 2 million for the Fold 8 Ultra in the first three months after launch.
Revised volumes ahead of the July 22 Unpacked
Samsung has scheduled a Galaxy Unpacked event for July 22, 2026, where its next-generation foldables are expected to be revealed. Ahead of that presentation, the company has adjusted its manufacturing plans: the Galaxy Z Fold 8 will be produced in greater numbers than the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra. The lineup will also include the Galaxy Z Flip 8.
Numbers and model comparison
For the initial three-month window, Samsung is targeting 2.8 million units of the Galaxy Z Fold 8 versus 2.0 million for the Fold 8 Ultra. The original strategy reportedly called for equal production between the two Fold 8 variants to retain flexibility against demand; that parity has now been shifted in favor of the standard Fold 8.
A bet on the 4:3 format
The Galaxy Z Fold 8 reportedly introduces a new display aspect ratio for Samsung — 4:3 — and internal communication suggests growing demand for the larger, “more square” screen. That demand is the primary driver behind the increased production allocation for the standard Fold 8.
What about the Galaxy Z Flip 8?
The lineup will also include the Galaxy Z Flip 8 (the successor to the Flip 7) alongside the Fold 8 Ultra (successor to the Fold 7). No specific production figures for the Flip 8 have been disclosed so far.
This production shift underscores Samsung’s confidence in the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and the commercial appeal of the 4:3 format. Final technical and commercial details will be confirmed at Galaxy Unpacked on July 22.
