South Korea’s consumer agency announced plans to mandate compensation from SK Telecom for 58 individuals involved in a class action lawsuit following a hacking incident. The agency determined that each affected user should receive compensation worth 100,000 won, combining cash points and mobile phone bill discounts. This decision follows an August penalty of 134 billion won imposed on the country’s largest mobile carrier due to a cybersecurity breach affecting over 20 million users. The agency intends to ensure all victims receive compensation, with total costs reaching nearly 2.3 trillion won. SK Telecom will be notified of the order and must respond within 15 days.
