iOS 27.2 Brings Siri AI in Five New Languages

Apple today released iOS 27.2 and iPadOS 27.2, the first major updates to iOS 27 and iPadOS 27 since their September launches. The updates are available for all iPhones and iPads that support iOS 27 and iPadOS 27 — including the iPhone Duo and the newly announced OLED iPad mini — and can be downloaded over the air via Settings > General > Software Update.

iOS 27.2: Siri AI expands to five new languages

iOS 27.2 expands Siri AI to additional languages, adding support for French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, and Spanish. On supported hardware — all iPhone 16 models and later, and the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max — Siri AI can now recall past conversations and draw from a wider range of personal context to produce answers. Sources for Siri AI responses include photos attached in Messages, Calendar event attendees, voicemails, and improved results from Safari history and Reading List. The update also adds an Excluded Apps setting to choose which apps Siri, Search, and suggestions can access, and a granular text selection feature to copy parts of a Siri response. Apple notes that Siri AI remains unavailable in the EU and mainland China.

Other app and system changes

iOS 27.2 and iPadOS 27.2 introduce a number of app-level changes: the Apple TV app gains Simple Profiles so each household member can have a tailored profile; Apple Music receives a new icon and branding; and Messages gains AI-powered suggestions to help take quick actions in apps such as Calendar and Reminders. In the European Union, the update provides an alternative expanded prompt for App Tracking Transparency.

Photos adds Shared Albums enhancements — the ability to edit captions and comments, measures to avoid adding duplicate photos, and a reminder before albums expire so participants can save important content. The Photos app and Image Playground gain support for SynthID watermarking to help identify images generated or modified with generative tools. Podcasts’ Home tab separates New Episodes and Continue Playing, and the Games app Friends tab adds context on friend suggestions and shows recent games played on friends’ player pages. FaceTime now supports adding a third-party sign language interpreter or live captioner to a call.

iPhone Duo-specific notes

Apple’s separate release notes for the iPhone Duo describe enhancements to Siri AI, including the ability to retain context from previous Siri interactions and to draw from broader personal context. The iPhone Duo also receives support for Apple Pencil and an Edge Light feature to illuminate the user’s face during video calls. The iPhone Duo release notes say the update also includes Suggestions in Messages for quick actions, as well as additional features, bug fixes, and security updates.

Availability and related release

iOS 27.2 and iPadOS 27.2 are available now via Settings > General > Software Update. Apple also released iOS 26.7.2 with security updates.
