Apple is considering bringing an Apple Watch-style fitness band with no screen to market, according to Mark Gurman.
Apple Watch lineup rethink
Gurman says the idea is part of a broader re-evaluation of the Apple Watch lineup, as the company seeks “something that transforms the product for a new era.” The report indicates Apple has not yet settled on a single direction for the shakeup.
Why screenless bands are gaining ground
Over the last 12 months, screen-free trackers have grown in popularity, with Google, Oura and Whoop all releasing screenless bands. These products are seen as attractive because they cause less distraction and offer lighter weight and longer battery life.
Apple is also reportedly considering other formats as part of the same review, including smart rings and even an Apple Watch with a circular display. Gurman adds that the potential revamp “could be as significant as the iPhone’s transformation from a slab design into a foldable device.”
