Galaxy Z lineup could expand to five foldables in 2027

A supply-chain leak citing industry insiders says Samsung is preparing five foldable phones for 2027, increasing the Galaxy Z family beyond the current four-device roadmap. The devices reportedly include the Galaxy Z Fold9, Fold9 Ultra, Flip9, a second wider Fold focused on entertainment, and a new-generation TriFold with broader availability.

Galaxy Z strategy and model breakdown

The report presents the Fold9 and Fold9 Ultra alongside a distinct entertainment-focused wide Fold and a next-generation TriFold, while the Flip9 is said to remain in the line-up. This expanded portfolio would create three separate roles within the Fold range: a mainstream productivity Fold (Galaxy Z Fold9), an entertainment-optimized wider Fold for video and gaming, and a premium Fold9 Ultra emphasizing top-tier hardware and productivity.

Samsung’s recent moves make the leak plausible: after the Galaxy Z Fold8 launch the company reportedly raised production targets following strong early demand, signaling confidence in premium foldables. Earlier reporting on Samsung’s projected 2027 flagship family already described a broader premium portfolio that included the Fold9, Fold9 Ultra, Flip9 and a second-generation TriFold; the new leak adds an additional Fold variant rather than replacing existing plans.

Why a wider Galaxy Z Fold matters

The wider, passport-style design introduced with the Galaxy Z Fold8 shifted emphasis toward everyday usability—typing, reading and multitasking—by favouring a squarer inner display. The rumored entertainment Fold would take that approach further: a wider screen would reduce letterboxing for 16:9 and wider video content and better suit gaming compared with the taller 4:3-oriented Fold models, helping Samsung distinguish productivity-focused and entertainment-focused devices.

Flip and TriFold plans

The leak also addresses prior speculation about the Flip series. Rather than retiring the Flip, the report claims the Flip9 remains on track while a rumored Flip FE (affordable model) has effectively disappeared. The report suggests rising component costs, including memory prices, may have made an affordable foldable harder to justify for Samsung, though the exact reason is not confirmed.

Samsung’s first TriFold was produced in limited numbers and felt closer to a showcase than a mass-market product. The next TriFold is expected to reach more markets, improving availability, but pricing is likely to remain high. The report notes Huawei continues to push its own multi-fold approaches, keeping competition in the tri-fold segment.

If Samsung does launch five foldables in 2027, the company would reinforce a strategy of offering multiple form factors targeted at different user habits rather than pursuing a single universal design. Competitors have focused on thinner or lighter folds, tri-fold experiments, or software-driven approaches; Samsung’s reported plan would emphasize choice across several premium designs.

The report is an unconfirmed leak: product names, specifications and launch plans could change before production begins. Even so, the direction aligns with recent decisions around the Fold8 and Fold8 Ultra, making a five-device Galaxy Z family more plausible than a year ago.
