For those who may not be aware, you no longer need to be part of the Apple Developer Program, which costs $99 annually, to install iOS developer betas. Nowadays, anyone can download the iOS 27 developer beta on their iPhone at no cost, and the process is straightforward.
Even if you’re not an app developer and have no immediate plans to launch apps on the App Store, you can still access the iOS 27 developer beta. However, if you prefer to wait for a more stable version, Apple has announced that the iOS 27 public beta will be available in July.
It’s important to note that while the initial iOS 27 developer beta is fairly stable, beta versions can contain bugs and performance issues. Some apps you depend on might not work properly, and there could be issues with CarPlay. It’s strongly advised to back up your iPhone before installing any beta software, and if possible, use a secondary device.
To install the iOS 27 Developer Beta, sign into your Apple Account, accept the Apple Developer Agreement to become a registered developer for free, then navigate to Settings > General > Software Update > Beta Updates, select the iOS 27 Developer Beta, and follow the instructions.
For the iOS 27 Public Beta available in July, register at beta.apple.com, then go to Settings > General > Software Update > Beta Updates, select the iOS 27 Public Beta, and follow the on-screen instructions.
iOS 27 is compatible with iPhone 11 and newer models, but features like Siri AI are exclusive to the iPhone 15 Pro and newer. The updated Siri version has a waitlist; you can join it through the Settings app on iOS 27 under the Siri section. Access to Siri AI and the Siri app can take from a few hours to several days.
