iOS 27, available to download on supported iPhone models on September 14, adds a new Siri mode to the stock Camera app that uses Visual Intelligence to identify objects in the frame and provide information about them.
iOS 27 Camera changes and Siri mode
Siri mode appears alongside Video, Photo and other camera modes and is accessed by swiping the mode carousel at the bottom of the screen. The mode uses Visual Intelligence to identify plants, animals, food and other subjects and then offers relevant information — for example, identifying a food item and indicating how many calories it contains.
The mode supports a range of actions: capturing a photo of an event flyer and adding a date to the Calendar app, translating text, splitting a bill and more. Within Siri mode, a button on the right lets users search Google Images for the subject in frame, while a button on the left allows asking a specific question, such as how to cook the food shown.
Apple also adjusted the Camera app interface in iOS 27. Quick-access tools for flash, Live Photo and Night mode are now located at the top-center of the UI, the full set of tools can be accessed from the bottom-right instead of the top-right, and users can customize which controls appear at the top of the screen.
iOS 27 was released on September 14, a few days before the launch of the new iPhone 18 Pro models on September 18.
