Apple is reportedly preparing to roll out iOS 27.2 for iPhone next week, bringing new features across Messages, Apple TV, FaceTime, Home, Podcasts and Games, according to a report. Apple has not yet confirmed the release date.
iOS 27.2: Messages and Apple TV updates
The update is said to restore a Suggested Actions feature in Messages that first appeared in the iOS 27 beta and was removed in later betas. In iOS 27.2, context‑aware suggestions would appear beneath messages in a conversation, offering options such as creating a calendar event or reminder, adding information to a note, and other context-specific actions.
On iPhone and iPad, the Apple TV app is expected to gain profile selection in iOS 27.2 and iPadOS 27.2. That profile screen already exists on tvOS and would let people sharing an account maintain separate viewing histories and recommendations; the profile selection screen can reportedly be disabled if users prefer not to see it each time.
FaceTime Dual Capture and camera upgrades
FaceTime’s Dual Capture feature is also set to receive an upgrade. Compatible iPhone users would be able to keep both the front and rear cameras active at the same time during a Group call. Users can tap the camera‑flip button to enable the feature, and on iPhone 17 and newer models both camera feeds are said to stream simultaneously by default.
Smart lock automations in Home
Following the recent launch of new smart home devices, iOS 27.2 could add two automation options for compatible smart locks. Lock After Closing would let users choose how long after a door closes the lock should engage automatically. Door Left Open would alert users when a door remains open for a specified period.
Podcasts queue and playback management
The Podcasts app may reorganize the Up Next queue on its Home tab into two distinct sections: New Episodes and Continue Playing. New Episodes would show the latest episodes from podcasts a user follows, while Continue Playing would collect episodes the user has started but not finished.
Games tab and activity tracking
In Games, users are reportedly set to see recently downloaded titles that they have not yet played; previously the Home tab showed games with some play activity. Apple is also said to update how achievement progress and leaderboard scores are displayed on the Home tab.
All of these changes are reported ahead of an expected iOS 27.2 release next week, but Apple has not publicly confirmed the update or its rollout schedule.
