A new leak claims Apple’s iPhone 20 Pro models will feature slightly larger displays and higher resolutions than the iPhone 18 Pro lineup, potentially keeping the same pixel density as current Pro models.
iPhone 20 Pro display details
Digital Chat Station posted early specifications that list a 6.41-inch screen for the iPhone 20 Pro with a resolution of roughly 2,686 × 1,236 pixels, and a 6.96-inch panel for the iPhone 20 Pro Max at about 2,912 × 1,340 pixels. By comparison, the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max measure 6.27 inches (commonly rounded to 6.3 inches) and 6.86 inches (rounded to 6.9 inches) respectively; their resolutions are 2,622 × 1,206 pixels and 2,868 × 1,320 pixels. The resolution increases track closely with the reported physical size increases, suggesting Apple would maintain roughly the same ~460 ppi pixel density as the iPhone 18 Pro models. The leaker also said the 6.96-inch panel on the iPhone 20 Pro Max could be marketed as a 7-inch display if it reaches production.
Design experiments and camera compromises
The leak echoes earlier claims that Apple is testing a “borderless quad-curved” display — a design with the screen curving away on all four sides to create a near-uninterrupted slab of glass where metal frame bezels are largely hidden. It was reported in June that Apple had begun ramping up work on two sizes for a 20th-anniversary iPhone. Apple is also said to be developing thinner, brighter OLED panels, along with under-display Face ID and potentially an under-display front-facing camera. At the same time, Digital Chat Station says Apple is testing a smaller Dynamic Island–style hole-punch design for the iPhone 20 Pro models, similar to the approach used on the new iPhone 18 Pro models, indicating multiple approaches remain under evaluation.
Photo and video quality and concealment issues with the under-screen FaceTime camera on the iPhone Duo are cited in the leak as a timely example of the challenges Apple faces when pursuing an uninterrupted display. Unless Apple can improve the under-screen implementation, a front-camera cutout may be the compromise for the iPhone 20 Pro models.
Apple last increased the size of its premium displays with the iPhone 16 Pro lineup in 2024, when the iPhone 16 Pro grew from 6.1 to 6.3 inches and the iPhone 16 Pro Max rose from 6.7 to 6.9 inches through slimmer bezels and slightly larger chassis dimensions. The iPhone 20 Pro and iPhone 20 Pro Max are expected to launch in September 2027, following the debut of the regular iPhone 18 earlier in the same year. Apple is also expected to skip an iPhone 19 lineup, as it previously did when it moved from the iPhone 8 to the iPhone X in 2017.
