Apple is expected to unveil its first foldable iPhone later this week, but the device may not reach global markets immediately as reports indicate a limited launch focused on North America and a possible release delay until October.
iPhone Fold launch constrained by production yields
Reports say Apple is struggling to secure sufficiently high yields for key components, specifically hinges and foldable display panels. Those yield issues could prevent the company from producing enough units for a broad, simultaneous launch, forcing a more restricted initial rollout.
Limited availability would shape release strategy
If production remains constrained, Apple is likely to prioritise core markets such as the United States before expanding availability elsewhere. The foldable iPhone may therefore be unveiled this week but not widely released until October and only in select regions at first.
Samsung stands to benefit
Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 8 is currently selling strongly, driven by its wide, passport-style form factor. The foldable iPhone would share a similar design and, as Apple’s first foldable, could have posed a significant challenge. A limited initial launch, however, would give Samsung more runway in key markets while Apple ramps up production.
