Is the Galaxy Watch 9 series the real deal?

Despite not upgrading my Galaxy Watch 5 since 2023, I’ve observed Samsung’s smartwatch evolution closely. The brand is gearing up for its 2026 lineup, potentially featuring three successors to its current models. This year promises to be exciting for smartwatch enthusiasts, especially with Samsung’s focus on aesthetics and the development of One UI. The 2025 models introduced the Cushion Design, characterized by circular displays on squarer bodies, a theme present across all models. This design philosophy is still evolving, and the upcoming Galaxy Watch 9 series might refine it further. The Watch 8 series, with its initial Cushion Design, already feels somewhat like a first draft. Samsung’s Unpacked event this summer might reveal a more polished version, with possible updates to the base, Classic, and Ultra models. Beyond design, the software is also a focal point. One UI 8 Watch, Samsung’s latest Wear OS iteration, has received mixed reviews. However, the next version might address some design and readability issues, enhancing the overall user experience.
