Is the Galaxy Z Fold 8’s screen protection twice as strong?

Samsung has confirmed that the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra benefit from tougher cover-glass protection: both models now use Corning Gorilla Glass Ceramic 3 on their cover display, a generational upgrade over the Gorilla Glass Ceramic 2 used on the Galaxy Z Fold 7.

Samsung confirms Gorilla Glass Ceramic 3 on the Galaxy Z Fold 8
Samsung did not highlight this change during the official launch. After an inquiry, the company clarified that the cover displays on both new Fold models feature Gorilla Glass Ceramic 3. This is a hardware improvement that was not explicitly called out in consumer-facing announcements.

Corning testing indicates a significant durability gain
Corning, the glass manufacturer, reports that in its lab tests Gorilla Glass Ceramic 2 survived drops from up to one meter, while Gorilla Glass Ceramic 3 withstood drops of more than two meters onto a surface simulating concrete. Based on those figures, the new generation of protection appears to be roughly twice as resistant to drops as its predecessor.

Where this protection stands relative to other flagship models
(The original text cuts off here. If you’d like, I can continue with a comparison to other flagship glass protections—e.g., how Ceramic 3 compares to Gorilla Glass Victus/Victus 2 and other foldable cover-glass solutions—using available test data.)
