What will the iPhone 17 Pro Max reveal in 2276?

An iPhone 17 Pro Max in Cosmic Orange has been sealed inside a 250-year time capsule as part of America’s Semiquincentennial celebrations, set to be unveiled in the 23rd century. The capsule, known as “America’s Time Capsule,” was officially sealed and buried at Independence National Historical Park in Philadelphia on July 4, 2026, with plans to reopen it in 2276. This initiative, led by America250, aims to represent the forefront of American innovation and technology as of 2026. The iPhone showcases significant advancements in handheld computing, imaging, and connectivity, transforming daily life in the 21st century. Within the device, “digital artifacts” in the Notes app offer a glimpse into everyday life in 2026 for those who will open the capsule in the future. The capsule’s design, a collaboration with the National Institute of Standards and Technology and preservation experts at the Library of Congress, ensures optimal preservation. It features a 900-pound stainless steel cylinder sealed with indium, covered by a 1,100-pound stainless steel bell jar to create a protective air pocket underground. Besides the iPhone, the capsule contains contributions from all 56 states and territories and the federal government, including historical items like a feather from Civil War era bald eagle mascot “Old Abe,” fabric from the Wright brothers’ 1903 aircraft, and an AI-generated response from Anthropic’s Claude, envisioning California 250 years from now.
