Call Brief finally worked: Samsung’s Galaxy AI revealed

Call Brief, part of Samsung’s Galaxy AI Call Assist on One UI 9, initially appeared to do nothing on my Galaxy Z Fold 8 — until it surfaced a shared calendar event and other contextual details under specific conditions.

Call Brief is a new addition to Galaxy AI’s Call Assist suite. Samsung says it can display contextual information and related events on the call screen, but the company does not explain what that means, give examples, or specify the conditions that trigger those prompts.

Call Brief in practice

I enabled Call Brief from Settings > Galaxy AI > Call assist > Call brief and called several people in the weeks that followed, but the feature never displayed anything. There was no contextual information, related event, or any other indication that it was active, so I assumed it simply wasn’t working.

Through social media I learned that Call Brief can show the other person’s local time and location when calling an international number. Since I rarely call outside my country, I had never seen that. To test further, I called myself from another phone using my secondary number.

It worked. As shown in a screenshot, Call Brief found an upcoming birthday stored in the Calendar app on both phones and displayed it as a Shared event.

That is a practical use of AI. I had briefly worried Call Brief might only become useful months after launch, as happened with Now Brief, but in my case the feature had simply never had an opportunity to trigger under my normal routine.

Not every Galaxy AI feature will be relevant to every user or used daily. Call Brief may rarely do anything for me, yet someone who regularly makes international calls or shares calendar events with their contacts could find it genuinely useful.

Samsung could be clearer about what Call Brief can show and what makes it spring into action. Listing examples such as local time, location, and shared calendar events on the Call Brief settings screen would likely have saved weeks of wondering whether the feature worked.
