OpenAI partners with Samsung to build custom AI chip

OpenAI Korea announced an expanded collaboration with Samsung Electronics, confirming that Samsung will manufacture a custom AI chip for OpenAI. The announcement also covers joint research and chip production efforts, alongside deployment of OpenAI’s enterprise software across Samsung.

OpenAI has not revealed the chip’s official name or its specific use case. The device is likely an AI computing chip intended to succeed Jalapeno, OpenAI’s first custom inference chip, which was developed with Broadcom and fabricated by TSMC.
